Application Information

Campus Ministry is accepting applications from members of the Class of 2012 to join the Campus Ministry Team (CMT).  Members of the CMT serve the school as:

  • Liturgical Leaders, such as Eucharistic Minister
  • Act as Big Brothers to freshmen
  • Retreat Leaders
  • Organize justice efforts through working with Pax Christi

Saint Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits, called his colleagues “companions.” The importance of this companionship cannot be overstated. These priests realized that to be men for others, they needed to be men with others. Ignatius and the companions were resources for each other as they sought the presence of Jesus and brought his Gospel message to others.

Much in the same way, the Campus Ministry Team has an obligation to serve Prep students as companions – to accompany them on retreat, lead them through the school year, minister to them at Mass, and bring an experience of God to the corner of Grand and Warren.

EXPECTATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS FOR SELECTION:

To be selected for the Campus Ministry Team, ALL APPLICANTS MUST:

  • Attend the Campus Ministry Team retreat from Monday, Aug. 8 - Thursday, Aug. 11
  • Be a practicing member of your faith tradition who is able to speak candidly about your relationship with God

      Additionally, all Big Brothers must:

      • Plan on attending the IgNite retreat (dates TBA - early September). This is an absolute necessity.
      • Attend any other Big Brother/Freshman programming throughout the year.

Additionally, students selected as Eucharistic Minister must:

      • Be a baptized and confirmed Roman Catholic who regularly participates in the sacramental life of the church, especially through Sunday Mass

It is expected that all members of the Campus Ministry Team will:

      • Provide leadership to all students
      • Behave in a courageous, humble, and positive way – both in and out of Prep
      • Make Campus Ministry programming a priority
      • Regularly check an e-mail account
      • Maintain good academic and discipline standing throughout senior year

      What is the application process?

      • Interested seniors should fill out the online application form, found by clicking here.
      • (Please note that the application includes several reflection questions; you may find it best to write your responses in Microsoft Word or similar program and then copy-and-paste your answer into the application. This will ensure proper spelling, grammar, etc.)
      • After submitting your application, you MUST schedule an interview to meet with Mr. Heffernan. A calendar of available meetings is posted online at www.timecenter.com/cmt. Applicants who do not have an in-person interview will not be considered.
      • All applications are due to be submitted by Monday, March 28, at 3 p.m. You must also have signed up for an interview at this time
      • Decisions will be announced prior to Easter Break.
      • Please know that nearly 80 students applied for 50 spots last year. Therfore, you are asked to put sincere thought, reflection, and prayer into your application before applying.

      Are there any costs involved?

      • Yes. Campus Ministry Team participants need to pay for their August 2011 Team Retreat, which costs $240. Financial aid is available for all Campus Ministry programming. Do not let cost prohibit you from being involved in the spiritual life of the school. Please see Mr. Heffernan with any questions or concerns.
